In other parts of the world, Sundays are very religious days with people, especially of Christian faiths, attending worship centres for their regular services.
Those who are irreligious see the day as an added day to the weekend when they can take time out to rest or just hang out with friends. In other words, Sundays are like a generally accepted holiday with most places of work closed.
However, this is not the case in some countries. Below are three countries around the world where Sundays are a normal workday and people are required to be in their offices.
1. Isreal
First in the list of the country that works on Sunday is Israel. This may come as a surprise for a country with lots of Christian pilgrim tourists.
In total, over two million Christians visited Israel in 2013, about 60% of the 3.54 million total visitors. But Isreal is predominately Jewish whose religion is Judaism. It is the Jewish state, and Judaism has always had its Sabbath on Saturdays.
It has her workdays as Sundays to Thursdays with Friday and Saturday off. The Fridays evenings are special, and it’s known as Erev Shabbat, or Sabbath Eve. Sunday holds no significance and thus a workday.
2. Bangladesh
Next on this list is Bangladesh, Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. It was formerly East Pakistan but became Bangladesh in 1971. It has a population estimated at 162 million. The religion here is predominantly Muslim.
Government offices and banks open for business from Sundays through Thursdays in Bangladesh. So, Sunday in this country is just another workday.
3. Malaysia
Next on the list is Malaysia. Malaysia is a Southeast Asian Country with a population estimated at 31.7m by a 2016 estimate. Malaysians Sunday as a workday is not like the other countries mentioned above.
The religious day is Friday, but the business weekend is Saturday and Sunday. But this, depends on the state. For the states of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu the weekend is Friday and Saturday, though in Johor many private businesses observe the Saturday-Sunday weekend instead.
The other part of Malaysia with the capital Kuala Lumpur inclusive, the weekend is observed on Saturday and Sunday with a long midday break for prayers for the Muslim amongst them.
