We all love papayas. Many love to have it empty stomach, add it to their salad or have detox papaya juice. It has medicinal properties and acts as an antibacterial, antifungal and antifungal. Its leaves are also commonly used to fight dengue fever.
Well, there is a not-so-good side to this beautiful fruit too. We all know how pregnant women are asked to refrain from eating papaya and pineapple.
And without questioning, every one follows. Here we tell you why this may not be the best fruit for men and women alike:
1. Abortion risk
Papaya as a fruit has umpteen benefits but its seeds and root can cause abortion. Moreover, unripe papaya can lead to uterine contractions. It may not be in high concentration in ripe papaya, but it is best to avoid this fruit during pregnancy.
2. Hamper food pipe
You are convinced papaya is the best fruit for you but that does not mean you will indulge in it a bit too much. Overeating papaya can hurt your esophagus. Avoid having more than a cup of papaya in a day
3. Birth defects
Papaya leaves have the popular component, Papain. It can be toxic for the baby and even lead to birth defects. Not much is known about its safety during breastfeeding so it’s best to avoid eating this fruit before and some time after birth
4. Allergic reaction

5. Brings down blood sugar
Papaya can cause blood sugar to drop and if you are taking medication to control BP, it can be dangerous.
6. Affects fertility
Extracts from papaya seed can lower male fertility. It is said to lower sperm count and even impact sperm mobility.
7. Toxicity
Papaya has various health benefits but it can turn toxic if had excessively. It is because of the compound benzyl isothiocyanate present in it.
